Maj. Gen. JKS Parihar is an excellent academician, medical administrator, and instructor of international eminence through his superb professional skill in the highly specialized fields of Refractory Glaucoma, Kerato lenticular refractive surgery, Community Ophthalmic services, and research. He obtained numerous medical qualifications like MBBS, DOMS, MS, and DNB. In addition to this, he is also a Post Doctoral training in Anterior Seg Microsurgery from AIIMS New Delhi. He has the distinction of being a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, India (FAMS) and Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) Honoris causa conferred by the Amity University, Rajasthan.
He has served in the Indian Armed Forces for about 34 glorious years with distinction and attained the rank of Major General, the second highest rank for any doctor in the armed forces of India. He held various important assignments like Additional Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services (Medical Research, Health & Training, Education), Professor and Head, of Ophthalmology at Army Hospital (R&R) Delhi Cantt & Professor of Ophthalmology at AFMC Pune. He is affiliated with the Centre for Sight (Ophthalmic Superspeciality Tertiary Care & DNB Trg Institute) New Delhi as a Senior Consultant Ophthalmology & Head, Academics and Trg & Professor of Ophthalmology.
An avid researcher, he has published 120 research publications in national & international journals and presented 750 research papers and Instructional Courses at national & international conferences. He has also authored 5 books and a good number of book chapters. He comes under the panel peer review of international journals like the US Journal of Cataract & Refract, the British Journal of Ophthalmology, the International Journal of Ophthalmology (Springer/Germany), and BMC. He is a keen researcher and completed 30 mega research projects under the aegis of the Armed Forces Medical Research Committee, DRDO & ICMR. He is a PhD guide and Postgraduate & Undergraduate teacher and Examiner of 19 Universities.
He has extensively contributed to the prevention & control of Blindness and the promotion of eye-banking activities. More than 4 Lakh patients have benefited in 275 camps conducted all over the Country including in remote areas of Ladakh, Northeast, Maharashtra, Bengal, and Nepal under his supervision and guidance. His unparalleled achievement was endorsed as a world record by the Limca Book of World Records in 2013 for performing Phacoemulsification cataract Surgery at the highest altitude of 14106 feet.
Maj. Gen JKS Parihar has more than 40 national and international professional and distinguished service awards in his credit., Acknowledging his efforts, the president of India has conferred the Sena Meal and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM)(Twice) upon him. He has also been conferred with the APAO Distinguished Service Award by the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology at Sydney, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Appreciation Award, and many other awards.
